What are the signs of Bed Bugs?
Small black spots – on mattresses and the surrounding area from bed bug faeces.
Blood spots – on sheets and mattresses.
Live insects – bed bugs like to hide in mattress seams, behind bed boards, in plug sockets and nooks and crannies in the bedside table. Despite being small (adults are only 4-5mm long) it is possible to spot live bed bugs.
Smell – Heavy infestations produce a distinctive sour, sickly smell.
In hotels, infestations are very disruptive and costly to eradicate. At best they can lead to upset guests and at worst, a highly detrimental review on Tripadvisor.
Bed bug control is a challenging task that requires a thorough inspection and an integrated approach, requiring both chemical and non-chemical treatments. Our bed bug specialists can provide a range of treatments suited to your business needs and requirements.

OUR BED BUG CONTROL SERVICES
FREE COMPREHENSIVE INSPECTION
For bed bugs, a full and thorough inspection of the infected bedroom is critical, together with adjoining and opposite rooms. Bed bugs can travel up to 4 metres to feed and therefore a comprehensive survey is essential to identify the bed bug harbourage sites.
SUPERHEATED DRY STEAM (SDS) TREATMENT
Javelin’s Superheated Dry Steam (SDS) treatment is able to deliver complete removal of a bed bug infestation in one session, making it ideal for busy hotels. Steam produced during the treatment eliminates all stages of a bed bug’s life cycle, from eggs to adults, and can be delivered in the presence of people. Rooms do not have to be closed for treatment, lowering the economic impact of an infestation.
This treatment comes with a 1 – 6 month warranty depending on what coverage is requested. If bed bugs re-infest the treated rooms within that period, Javelin Services will return, free of charge, to eliminate the infestation.
INSTALLATION OF BED BUG MONITORS
We will deploy bed bug monitoring devices when necessary, to monitor activity and to detect any re-infestation as early as possible.
Bed bug monitors replicate humans by emitting carbon dioxide and heat, the main attractants for bed bugs. These devices can be checked by in-house staff and outbreaks can be reported early before they spread to neighbouring rooms. Early detection will enable us to administer an even quicker and more effective treatment.
BED BUG BARRIER TREATMENT
Using specifically designed odourless pesticides that target bed bugs, your Javelin technician will spray the perimeter of the bedroom to create a protective coat of residue. Cracks and crevices around bedside tables, chairs and curtains will also be treated to provide long term protection.
